CHANJO TOUR INTERRUPTED!!

As from when it commenced on the 19th October 2011, Chanjo has already covered 7 regions: Rukwa,  Mbeya, Iringa, Morogoro, Dodoma, Singida and Tabora.  In this coverage a total of 23 performances and at least 7,840 people who have attended.

Fortunately, they all responded well by being attentive and they were free to participate. Some explained how they understand corruption, its forms and courses while some even gave vivid examples of cases in their daily life. However there are few who seemed to suggest that we can not do without corruption.

Another challenge is that the PCCB interrupted the program on the 10th Novermber 2011. While at the performance in a parking area, in Nzega Tabora region showed up two police officers in casual clothes. They ordered Vitali Maembe to leave the stage and to get in the police vehicle and they headed to the district police station.

At the station they told him to wait for the PCCB  officer for about an hour. During that hour the police officers were interrogating him without writing anything. When the PCCB officer arrived, Vitali was handed over to him.

From around 1800 Hrs to 2200 Hrs the three officers mocked all the efforts put in this tour. They claimed to have the authority to stop Vitali from singing about corruption. Then, they could denounce the band registration, and they would also stop the permits for the tour. They also decleared that, at the end of the tour, Vitali would end up being the loser.  Their claims were that he had insulted the PCCB.
Meanwhile they were communicating on the phone with the District Commissioner, Head of the District Police Station and someone from the national Security council. After hours of interrogation they let him go.

Now the whole band of  The spirits is in Bagamoyo, soon at the end of this week they will carry on with the tour.

Briefly, this is what has been happening over the last month, we will keep you posted.

Vitalis M. Maembe.
Asante.
